In 2025, various customized strategic projects reflecting the characteristics and current issues of each region will be promoted by the government, local governments, and related organizations. 1. Response to population decline and local extinction

 

• Establishment of development strategies and support systems tailored to the characteristics of population decline regions

• Establishment of an empty house information platform, expansion of demolition support projects, and strengthening of tax support

• Development of collaborative products utilizing local specialties of population decline regions (e.g. Yeongyang peppers in 2025)

 

• Investment and attraction of small and medium-sized and venture companies through the ‘Population Vitality Fund’ (KRW 20 billion)

• Expansion of youth village creation (12 new locations in 2025), creation of youth local business spaces (15 locations)

• Expansion of shelters in border areas, establishment of LPG fuel supply networks in island areas, increase in support for living in the West Sea 5 Islands, etc.

 

2. Growth of regional industry and innovation

 

• Promotion of regional innovation engine projects utilizing national strategic technology achievements of regional R&D special zones

• Expansion of R&D and intellectual property (IP) strategic support projects by each region, including Jeonnam

• Gyeonggi-do, etc. targeting underdeveloped regions to build industrial, tourism, cultural, and educational infrastructure Strengthening (e.g. Pocheon Taebong Neighborhood Park, Educare Platform, Development of Infrastructure for Depopulated Areas)

 

3. Expansion of Cultural, Tourism, and Living Infrastructure

 

• Establishment of cultural facility hubs by region, establishment and relocation of national cultural facilities to regions, and transformation of idle spaces in old industrial complexes into cultural spaces

• 13 cultural cities of Korea, K-tourism resort belt, creation of representative local content and sports, etc.

• Promotion of tourism boom in three major fields: domestic tourism, inbound tourism, and tourism infrastructure

 

• Expansion of regional projects in the marine and fisheries sectors, such as the fishing village revitalization project (26 sites selected by 2025), establishment of fishing village development special zones, and permission for profit-making facilities to move into fishing port areas

 

4. Strengthening balanced regional development and local autonomy

• Gyeonggi Province, etc. are resolving regional imbalances and promoting customized development through five major strategies, 22 core tasks, and 136 detailed projects under the ‘Local Era Implementation Plan’
