Grit

by note1328 2025. 7. 21.

Grit is a psychological term that refers to passion and persistence toward a long-term goal. It emphasizes that, rather than simple talent or IQ, the attitude of consistently working toward a goal without giving up for a long time is an important factor in determining success.

Angela Duckworth, a leading researcher on grit, defines grit as “perseverance and passion for long-term goals” and explains that people with high grit pursue their goals to the end despite failure and adversity.

In fact, people with high grit have been shown to perform better in various fields such as academics, sports, and business.

The main elements of grit are as follows:

• Interest: A genuine interest in what one is doing

• Practice: A sustained and intentional effort

• Purpose: A sense of personal meaning and contribution to others

• Hope: An attitude of not giving up even in the face of difficulties

In other words, grit is a psychological quality that combines passion and persistence toward a long-term goal, rather than a concept of simple grit or effort.
