What is a great question?

by note1328 2025. 7. 16.

A great question is a question that has the power to shake up existing perspectives or ways of thinking and to lead to new thoughts and insights. It is not a question simply to get an answer, but a question that stimulates deeper exploration of oneself and the world.

Characteristics of a great question

• Stimulates thinking and opens new perspectives.

• Gains information, opens minds, and enables better communication.

• Used as a key tool for self-growth, leadership, and creativity.

• Open questions (How, Why, etc.) are particularly effective.

Example: Great questions in history

The following are representative questions from various fields such as philosophy, science, and religion:

• Who am I?

• What do we know?

• Why should we live?

• Does God exist?

• What is human nature?

• Why should we live well?

• Can we understand each other?

  Why does it matter?

Peter Drucker said, “The great leaders of the 20th century gave great answers, but the great leaders of the 21st century ask great questions.” In other words, good questions are the starting point of change, innovation, and growth.

“There is no such thing as an unimportant question. The very act of asking a question is important.”
