Carbon Transportation Card

The 2025 Carbon Transportation Card is officially called the ‘Climate Companion Card’ and is a transportation subscription system that allows unlimited use of public transportation for a monthly flat rate.

 

This card is being implemented as part of an eco-friendly policy to reduce transportation costs and discourage the use of private vehicles to reduce carbon emissions.

 

Key features and benefits

• Monthly flat rate: By paying a set amount per month, you can use various transportation methods such as subways, buses, and public bicycles (Ddareungi) in Seoul and the metropolitan area (gradually expanding nationwide) without limit.

 

• Available areas: As of 2025, it is available in major cities in the metropolitan area such as Seoul, Goyang, Gwacheon, Gimpo, Guri, Namyangju, Seongnam, and Uijeongbu, and is scheduled to be expanded to Hanam and other areas in the future.

 

• Available areas: Seoul subway, some Gyeonggi-do subway sections, Seoul City licensed city/village buses, Ddareungi (optional).

 

• Fare: As of 2025, the general plan is 62,000 won per month (public transportation only), and youth, families with multiple children, and low-income earners will receive discounts of 45,000 to 58,000 won.

 

• Expansion of discount targets: A customized discount system for youth, families with multiple children, and low-income earners will be introduced starting in the second half of 2025.

 

• Cultural facility discounts: Discounts linked to various cultural facilities such as Lotte World and the Aquarium will also be provided.

 

Issuance and usage methods

 

• Implementation period: Nationwide sequential implementation starting in January 2025

 

• Issuance method: Choose between a physical card or a mobile card, apply and manage on the dedicated app.

• Usage period: Monthly subscription (applied from the 1st to the last day of each month), automatic extension or renewal on the app.

 

Other Notes

 

• Differences from K-Pass: K-Pass is a method of receiving refunds based on the number of times used (up to 60 times), while Climate Companion Card is a monthly flat-rate unlimited use method.

If your monthly transportation expenses are over 77,500 won, Climate Companion Card is more economical.

 

• Policy Purpose: It is a national eco-friendly project that promotes the transition to a carbon-neutral society while reducing transportation costs.
